Digital Leader Grants

The Center’s Digital Leaders represent a cross section of all four divisions of UW-Extension.  Projects were determined and carried out locally with support from the Center. The first group of Digital Leader projects ran July-December, 2013; the second group of Digital Leader projects ran January-June 2014. The third group of Digital Leaders completed their projects July-December 2014. At this time, these grants are not available.

Background: Following successful completion of two ARRA (stimulus) grants for broadband investment and education in 2013, UW-Extension launched the Broadband & E-Commerce Education Center. The purpose of the Center was to build on the success and momentum of the broadband grants specifically in the area of outreach and education. One critical piece of the Center’s mission was to seed sustainability across public and private sectors statewide to help communities connect with the internet and Internet training they need. To this end, the Center held two intensive High Speed Broadband Boot Camps for UW-Extension staff and their community partners. Participants learned about basic broadband terms, the economic impact of broadband on communities, political and economic landscapes of broadband, and success stories and “how tos” from around the state about communities working together for high speed internet access. UW-Extension graduates of the Boot Camps were eligible for Digital Leader grant program to develop and execute broadband projects in their communities.
